1 Adobe photoshop and illustrator are installed in the library computers, but currently they won't open, stating that a sign in is required.

Thanks for letting us know. I signed into both a MAC and a PC and was able to use both Photoshop and Illustrator.  If you are still having the same problem, please let someone at the Library Services desk know.

Sincerely yours,

David

2 Hi, Just wanted you guys to know that the mac CL01M01 has a vertical line on the screen that is probably under warranty.

Thank you very much for letting us know!  This problem has been reported to our PC/MAC support team.  They looked into it and are having it repaired as the MAC is still under warranty.

3 UWorld has recently discontinued the version of their software currently installed on Calder's computers. If IT could install the latest version from uworld.com, that would be very appreciated.

4 Please either install the UWorld Launch client or allow the Macs in the Papper Study Lounge on the 3rd Floor (3017A) and in the Mac Lab (2011) on the 2nd floor to run the UWorld Launch client. Right now, you cannot run the client on Macs because the current security settings on these computers do not recognize the publisher of this launch client. This is one of the main study resources used by Medical students and it would be appreciated if it could be run on all the computers in the library, not just on the PC's.

Good morning,

Thank you for your message and for letting the Library know that this resource is needed.  Our Electronic Services Librarian is now working with the Academic Services Department to have UWorld installed on the MACs.  Academic Serives manages all of the updates and resources on Library patron computers.  They will first need to create a new desktop image before activating the resources.  Hopefully this new image will be deployed within the next two weeks.

Sincerely yours,

Kim

5 A lot of the Windows computers on the first floor need Adobe Flash to be updated. Also, the volume icon on the bottom tool bar does not work

Comment on Fri May 19, 2017, 9:43 am

Thanks for your feedback. I asked our desktop support technician to look into the two issues you identified. The technician checked several computers on both the 1st and 2nd floors and the volume on all PCs worked properly. He suggested in the future to include the PC number (listed on the top of PC) when reporting a problem. Although not required, it would also be helpful to include contact information in the event we need further information to resolve issues.

With respect to Adobe flash updates. All PCs in the library are scheduled to be updated within the next couple of weeks. Per the help desk technician,  “Adobe releases several updates to Flash throughout the year sometimes several times within one month. We typically update Flash when we reinstall the computers with a new image unless, there is a major security issue or the older version breaks some functionality that is needed. The computers in the library are scheduled to be updated with a new image in the coming weeks. I will continue to monitor the situation to see if any immediate action needs to be taken.

Regards,
David

7 More outlets/ways to plug in a laptop charging cable in the 3rd floor study room!!! Please!!! Especially from the tables that located far from wall outlets, the cable splitters don't reach them.

Comment on Wed Jan 18, 2017, 9:36 am

Thank you for your suggestion.  The Library working with Facilities hired an outside company to install 7 new 4 plug floor flushed outlets.  Three outlets were installed in the 3rd floor History of Medicine Room, 1 in the 3rd floor open study space, and 3 more on the first floor in the open study space.  We are excited to report that these new outlets increase our plug capacity by 28.

8 BIOMEDICAL COMMUNICATION: I believe that additional personnel could be hired to help out in speeding up the production of audiovisual materials. I also believe that this equipment might be upgraded and newer, smarter technology added.

Comment on Wed Jan 18, 2017, 9:03 am

Since Biomedical Communications operates on a cost-recovery basis (income supports all departmental cost including personnel salaries) hiring additional personnel is highly problematic.  However, most of Biomed Communications’ equipment is professional grade and has been updated in the last year.

10 Faster computers

Comment on Fri Dec 23, 2016, 9:45 am

The Library recently upgraded all older PCs/Macs. All Library computers are in compliance with the University’s guidelines which call for the replacement of all PCs once they have exceeded their useful life.  The useful life for desktops or laptops, as defined by the UMIT and industry standards, is four years.

11 IT services for MAC on the med campus - because right now it's only on the undergrad campus.

Comment on Thu Dec 22, 2016, 10:18 am

Thank you very much for taking the time to write.  In June 2016, the Medical Campus Academic Technologies unit of UMIT relocated to room 1018A in the Calder Library.  The Student Technology Help Desk’s normal operating hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The Technician is available to assist students who use both MACs and PCs with:
Connecting various devices (laptops, tablets, phones)
                Downloading and installing University-licensed software
Scanning devices for viruses and attempting to remediate issues
Accessing University-licensed cloud file storage services
                Troubleshooting issues with email
