1. How can I expand my search to all University of Miami Libraries?

To search for all materials in all UM libraries, use the "Everything" tab.



Each item will have an icon indicating whether it is a book or an article.  Print materials will indicate if they are available or if they have been checked out.  Click on Find in Library for status of a specific item.  Online materials will have a link to full text--click on "Find Online."


2. How can I find articles in peer-reviewed journals in uSearch?

Use the filters side bar and click on "Show only: Peer-reviewd Journals"

3. How can I find citations that contain the keywords I enter in the title, when searching for materials in uSearch?

Select "Title" from the dropdown box below the search box: 

4. How can I print my list of citations from uSearch?

To print a list of citations from uSearch, follow these steps:

1. Sign in to your uSearch account (look for the Star e-Shelf and Sign in).


2. Click on Cane ID and enter your user name and password. 




3. Your name will appear until you Sign out (recommended when you are done).



4. Use the "Electronic Resources" tab, enter your search terms, and click Search (or Enter).  Refine your results.  Select citations by clicking on the Star next to each citation (the Star changes color when you click on it).

5. How can I search for materials published in the last five years in uSearch?

To search for materials published in the last five years (or any other dates), first do your search, then go to the side bar under Refine My Results.  Enter the dates that you wish to search for and click on Update.

6. How can I search for print books available at the Calder Medical Library?

To search for print books, use the Library Catalog tab, enter your topic(s), and click Search. This will search for print materials in all medical libraries (Calder Library, Ophthalmology Library, and UMH Library).



Results will contain the "Call Number" which indicates its shelf location.  In the case below, the two items indicate that the books are available on the Medical Library Stacks (Calder Library 3rd floor).  The call numbers are listed.

7. How can I send list of citations to my email?

To send your search results to your email, follow these steps:
1. Sign in to your uSearch account (look for Star e-Shelf and Sign in.

 
2.  Use your Cane ID and password to sign in.  Your name will appear until you Sign out (recommended).




3. Enter your search terms and refine your results.  Select citations by clicking on the Star next to the citation (the Star changes color when you click on it).




4. Go to your eShelf and select the citations you want to send via email by clicking on the box next to the citation. Click on E-mail (if you want to Print the list, click on Print).

8. How do I combine terms in uSearch?

You can combine terms in uSearch by using Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT).  For example, to search for depression and anxiety in the elderly, you can enter "depression AND anxiety AND elderly."

9. How do I search for online books and book chapters in uSearch?

Follow these steps to search for Books, eBooks, and Book Chapters:

  1. Use the Electronic Resources tab to search for your topic of interest.
  2. Go to "Refine My Results" (on the left side bar) and click on to expand the Resource Type category.
  3. Select "Books and eBooks"

10. What are my options for sorting my uSearch results?

You can sort your citations by:  Relevance (default setting), Date-newest, Popularity, Author, or Title.  The sorting options are on the top right side of the search results.
